Executive Presence: 10 Concrete Examples From Real Senior Rooms
'You need more executive presence' is the most useless feedback in corporate India. Here are 10 concrete behaviours that actually make it visible.
10 executive presence behaviours you can practice this week
1. Answer in 90 seconds, not 15 minutes. Compression signals seniority.
2. Hold a two-second pause before answering senior stakeholders. It projects composure.
3. Frame every update with the outcome first, the activity second.
4. Say 'here's what I recommend' before 'here's what I found'.
5. When interrupted, finish your sentence before yielding. Do not race to catch up.
6. Disagree with senior stakeholders in writing sometimes, not always in the room.
7. Use their name once, not five times, in senior conversations.
8. In a crisis meeting, be the first person to say 'here's what we do next'.
9. Never explain your work - position it.
10. Leave the last two minutes of a meeting to summarize the decisions. Ownership is presence.
